Description
Nos 63 and 65 Piccadilly is a corner bank and office block built between 1922 and 1923 by Curtis Green. The building is constructed of Portland stone with a slate roof and features an individual and carefully proportioned classical design. It has a ground floor and five upper storeys arranged in three stages, with five bays facing Piccadilly.
On the ground floor, the three central bays have high semicircular arched windows that light the banking hall, along with a balcony and a range of windows for a mezzanine floor. The second stage mirrors this design, with the same central three bays marked by semicircular arched recesses that enclose window compositions across two storeys. The third stage features a single Ionic order that runs through the remaining two storeys, again emphasizing the central three bays, which are deeply recessed behind the colonnade to form a galleria topped with a high medium pitched roof. The Albemarle return is shorter but employs similar compositional elements.
