Description

The monument to the Thrupp family is located approximately 12 meters south-west of the Church of St Mary in Paddington Green, Westminster. It dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century and is constructed of ashlar stone. The monument features a pedestal and a sarcophagus with a gadrooned edge and a swept cover, which is also adorned with gadrooning and topped with a shallow pediment. There are recesses for inscriptions on each side; however, the inscription on the west side has been lost. The south side has a later replacement inscription that commemorates Mary Burgan, who died in 1795, the wife of Joseph Thrupp, and their son who died in 1872. The inscription plaque on the east side honors J A Thrupp, who died in 1844, and his wife Caroline, who died in 1842. The plaque on the north side commemorates Mary, the wife of Joseph Thrupp, who died in 1845, and their granddaughter Caroline, who also died in 1845.
