Description
No. 3 New Row is a terrace house with a shop, dating from the late 17th century and altered around 1840 to 1850. The building is faced with stucco and features a flat roof. Its architectural style combines modest Italianate elements with some vaguely Jacobethan features. The structure has four storeys and includes a mid-20th century penthouse attic set back from the main facade.
The building is three windows wide, with a mid-20th century shop front beneath a coved fascia. The first and second floors have nearly flush framed exposed box frame glazing bar sash windows. The first-floor windows are topped with lay lights, which are screened by geometric patterned piercedwork. These windows are flanked by pilaster strips with shell ornamented shaped brackets that support a shallow balcony on the second floor, which has an iron railing. The second-floor sash windows are set in eared architraves with cambered keystoned heads, likely a modification of the original openings. The third floor features a two-light glazing bar sash window with a bracket-headed divider and flankers, set within a shallow segmental arched eared architrave. The building is topped with a parapet that has coping.
