Description
This is a row of fifteen houses, numbered 1 to 15, forming the western section of Wilton Crescent in London's City of Westminster. The houses date from the earlier 19th century, but were significantly altered in the early 20th century by the architects Balfour and Turner. They are faced with Portland stone, with brick and stucco to the return side of number 1. The roofs are not visible.
The houses are three storeys high, with attics to numbers 2 to 14. Each house has a facade two windows wide. The entrances are on the left-hand side. Balconies with decorative brackets and wrought iron railings are positioned on the first floor, and applied Doric pilasters are located between the windows, along with a subsidiary cornice above. The second and third floors are linked by paired Ionic pilasters set between the buildings. A heavy modillion cornice runs along the top of the facade. Numbers 2 to 14 have a balustrade finished with urns at numbers 2 and 14. Numbers 1 and 15 have dipped parapets, each topped with a ball finial. The windows and doors have square heads with architraves. The windows are mostly sash windows, retaining their original glazing bars, with French windows on the first floor. The entrance to number 1 is on the return side, featuring a projecting stuccoed porch. The doors are panelled (though of varying styles) and have decorative fanlights above. Area railings have detailing in an Arts and Crafts style. The buildings were designed as part of a larger layout, which includes numbers 16 to 30 on Wilton Crescent.
