Description
This is a row of twelve houses, numbered 16 to 30, forming the eastern section of Wilton Crescent. The houses were originally built in the early 19th century and later refurbished in the early 20th century by the architectural firm Balfour and Turner. The facade is constructed with Portland stone, brick, and stucco to the return of number 16. The roofs are not visible.
The houses are three stories high, with attics to numbers 17 to 29. Each house is two windows wide, except for number 30, which has three bays. Each house has an entrance on the left side. The first floor features balconies supported by prominent brackets with wrought iron railings. Decorative Doric pilasters are applied between the windows, and a subsidiary cornice runs above the second and third floors, united by paired Ionic pilasters that sit between the houses. There is a heavy modillion cornice at the top. Numbers 17 to 29 have a balustrade topped with urns at each end. Numbers 16 and 30 have dipped parapets, each finished with a ball finial.
The windows and doors are square-headed with architraves. The windows are mostly sash windows, retaining their original glazing bars. French windows are on the first floor. The entrance to number 30 is set back to the right, and the entrance to number 16 is within a projecting stucco Doric porch on the left. The panelled doors have decorative fanlights. The area railings have Arts and Crafts detailing. The development was part of a larger plan for Wilton Crescent, which includes numbers 1 to 15.
