Description
No. 24 George Street is a terraced house built around 1780-1800 as part of the Portman Estate development. The building is constructed of stock brick with a channelled stucco ground floor and features a concealed slate roof. It stands four storeys tall with a basement and is two windows wide.
To the left, there is a semicircular arched doorway with a panelled door and a radial patterned fanlight set in panelled reveals and soffit, topped with a keystone that has a head design. The upper floors have recessed sash windows with intact glazing bars, while the ground floor windows feature vermiculated keystones above flat arches. The upper floor sashes are adorned with gauged flat arches. A plat band at the first floor level finishes the stuccowork, and the building is topped with a parapet that has stone coping.
Wrought iron balconettes are present on the first floor, and cast iron area railings with spearhead finials surround the basement area.
