Description
No. 6 George Street is a terraced house with a shop, built around 1780 as part of the Portman Estate development, with some early 19th-century alterations. The building features stock brick construction with a rusticated stucco ground floor and a concealed slate roof. It stands four storeys tall with a basement and is two windows wide. The ground floor has an early 19th-century wooden shop front that includes three semicircular arched windows, flanked by side doors, all set in bays divided by Doric pilasters that support an entablature. The upper floors contain recessed sash windows under flat gauged red brick arches. A plat band finishes the stuccowork, and there is a parapet with stone coping. The first floor has cast iron balconettes, and the area railings have been renewed.
