Description
The drinking fountain in the forecourt of Hertford House, also known as The Wallace Collection, was built around 1878 and designed by Charles Lebourg. It is made of cast iron and features an octagonal plinth with elaborately scrolled consoles and moulded dolphins on its sides. At the top, four caryatids support an octagonal entablature with a canopy that includes simulated fish-scale details and additional decorative elements. This fountain is a notable example of a type that was presented to the City of Paris by Sir Richard Wallace, an Anglo-Parisian philanthropist and founder of the Wallace Collection, who funded the construction of many similar fountains throughout Paris.
