Description
No. 26 Manchester Square is an end of terrace town house built around 1776 to 1788 as part of the Duke of Manchester's development on Portman Estate land. It is located on the southeast side of the square and is adjacent to Nos. 1 to 3. The building features brown brick with a stuccoed ground floor and has a concealed slate roof. It stands four storeys tall with a basement and is three windows wide facing the square, with a six-window return to Hinde Street.
The Hinde Street front has a semicircular arched doorway flanked by inset Doric columns and topped with a fanlight. The upper floors have recessed sash windows, some of which have glazing bars, set under flat gauged arches. There are stucco plat bands and a stone-coped parapet. The property is also enclosed by cast iron area railings with urn finials.
