Description
1A Duke Street is a Grade II listed corner terraced town house that dates from around 1776 to 1788, part of the Duke of Manchester's development. The building features a brown brick exterior with a channelled stucco ground floor and a concealed slate roof. It stands four storeys tall with a basement and has a width of four windows, two of which are blind, along with a three-window return facing Manchester Square.
The doorway, located in the second bay from the right, is square-headed and includes a panelled door with a patterned fanlight above. The ground floor windows to the right have been adapted for use as shop display windows. The upper floors feature recessed sash windows to the right and blind windows to the left, all set beneath flat gauged arches.
On the Manchester Square side, the building has recessed glazing bar sashes under flat gauged arches, with plat bands on the first and second floors, a cornice above the second floor, and a stone-coped parapet. The original first-floor balcony is made of cast iron with a geometric pattern. The plat band on the first floor is the only one that extends to the Duke Street front, which also has a stone-coped parapet. Additionally, there are cast iron area railings with urn finials.
