Description
Nos. 6 and 8 Duke Street are a pair of terraced houses built around 1776 to 1788, as part of the Duke of Manchester's development of Manchester Square on Portman land. The buildings are constructed of stock brick with stuccoed ground floors and have concealed slate roofs. They rise to four storeys and each house features three windows. The original Victorian shop fronts have been altered, but No. 8 retains a semicircular arched house doorway with an architrave surround to the left. Both houses have recessed sashes under flat gauged arches, with red brick arches for No. 8. A stone coped parapet crowns both fronts, and No. 8 also has an original geometric patterned cast iron balcony on the first floor. These buildings are included for their group value.
