Description
No. 2A Duke Street is a corner terraced town house dating from around 1776 to 1788, part of the Duke of Manchester's development on Portman land. The building is constructed of brown brick and has a concealed slate roof. It stands four storeys tall with a basement and features a façade that is four windows wide, plus two blind bays, with a three-window return to Manchester Square.
The central doorway is framed by a wooden doorcase with half pilasters, an architrave, and a cornice. The windows are recessed sashes, some of which retain their glazing bars, and are set under flat gauged arches. The elevation facing the square includes plat bands at the first and second floors, along with a cornice above the second floor, and an attic storey topped with a coped parapet. The Duke Street front has a returned plat band at the first floor and a parapet with coping. Part of the ground floor on the left side has been adapted for use as a shop. The property is also adorned with cast iron area railings featuring urn finials.
