Description
No. 86, Carlton Hill is a detached house dating from the mid-19th century. It is constructed of gault brick with stucco and has a slate roof. The house is designed in a Tudor/Gothic style with an irregular composition. It features three main bays, two storeys plus an attic and basement, with a four-storey tower to the left. The central entrance is contained within a four-centred moulded archway with a traceried door. The right bay has a canted ground floor window, a traceried band above the window, and a simplified parapet, topped by a large ogee gable to the attic. The left bay incorporates a crenellated tower with a corbelled canted oriel window at first floor level, also crenellated. Square-headed architraved sash windows with plate glass are present throughout, while the tower and the central bay’s ground floor have two-light mullion windows.
