TQ 2881 SW CITY OF WESTMINSTER FITZHARDINGE STREET, W1 55/26 14.1.70 Nos. 2 to 5 (consec) G.V. II Terraced town houses. c.1780, associated with the Duke of Manchester's development of the adjacent Manchester Square on Portman Estate land, the street joining the western approach to the square. Brown brick, No. 5 with deeply channelled stucco ground floor; slate roofs, some concealed by parapets. 4 storeys and basements with dormered mansards or full attic storeys. 3-window wide fronts. Semicircular arched doorways, set to right except for No. 5; panelled doors with sidelights, fluted doorheads and fanlights, Nos. 2 and 4 with looped radial pattern, No. 5 with broad double doors and fanlight. Recessed sashes under gauged flat arches. Stucco sill band across 1st floor. Parapets with stone or stucco copings. Some of 1st floor windows with cast iron geometric patterned balconies. Cast iron area railings with urn finials, Nos. 2 and 3 with scrolled wrought iron lampholders.
