Description
No. 15 Queen Anne's Gate is a Grade I listed terraced town house built around 1700-1704, forming part of the original Queen Square development and located at the southeast corner of the former close. The building features a brown brick exterior with red brick window dressings and a slate roof, designed in an L shape. It has three storeys, a basement, and a steeply hipped roof with dormers.
The façade includes four windows, with one positioned above the door, one in a splayed re-entrant angle, and two on the west flank. The north end has two blind windows and a half-blind window. A doorway from around 1800 is located on the right side, featuring a panelled door and a radial patterned fanlight set in a stucco semicircular arched surround, accessed by steps. The windows have flush framed glazing bar sashes beneath flat gauged red brick arches, which are adorned with carved mask keystones on the ground and first floors. The building also has stone plat bands over the ground and first floors and an original wood modillion eaves cornice.
Wrought iron area railings with flambé torch finials and lamp standards enhance the exterior. The north return of the building features a statue of Queen Anne. Inside, the property boasts a good interior with much of its original panelling, cornices, chimneypieces, and a cut and carved string staircase with twisted balusters. Originally, a wall separated Queen Square from Park Street to the east, and No. 15 is part of an exceptional group of Queen Anne houses.
