42, Queen Anne'S Gate Sw1

No. 42 Queen Anne's Gate is a Grade I listed corner terraced town house built around 1700 to 1704, with alterations made in the early 19th century. It was constructed as part of the original Queen Square development. The building features a stucco-faced brown brick exterior and a slate roof, standing three storeys tall with a basement and a dormered mansard.

The façade is five windows wide, with a three-window return on the north side. A central semicircular arched doorway with an architrave and fanlight serves as the main entrance, while the former entrance to the right of the return has been altered to a bow window. The windows are slightly recessed framed sashes set under flat arches, with the ground and first-floor windows retaining original stone mask keystones. The building also has first and second-floor plat bands and a parapet with coping.

Inside, the property retains original features such as panelling, cornices, and a cut and carved string staircase with three twisted balusters per tread. No. 42 is part of an exceptional group of Queen Anne houses.
