44, Queen Anne'S Gate Sw1

No. 44 Queen Anne's Gate is a Grade I listed terraced town house built around 1700 to 1704, with an early 19th-century parapet. It was constructed as part of the original Queen Square development, likely as a pair with No. 46. The building features brown brick with red brick window dressings and a slate roof. It has three storeys, a basement, and a dormered mansard, with a façade that is three windows wide plus a blind half window.

The entrance, located to the left and shared with No. 46, has a panelled door framed by a wood architrave case with a projecting cove hood. The windows are flush framed glazing bar sashes set under flat gauged arches, with carved stone mask keystones on the ground and first floors. There are stone plat bands at the first and second levels, and the parapet has coping. Wrought iron area railings with flambe torch finials complete the exterior, which is similar on the rear elevation.

Inside, the house retains much of its original panelling, cornices, and an impressive cut and carved string staircase featuring three turned balusters per tread. This property is part of an exceptional group of Queen Anne houses.
