Description

29 Peckham Road is a large public building dating from 1904. It is constructed of red brick with stone dressings and features a slated roof with bracketed eaves cornice above a stone frieze, topped by a copper-hooded square timber cupola on a raised central ridge section. The building has two storeys, a tall banded rusticated stone basement, and an attic with a centrally bowed wide dormer. It is designed with five bays, where the projecting square stone outer bays rise to full height, ending in battlemented parapets that are well above the eaves level.

On the left parapet, there is a date tablet, while the right side features a sundial and the inscription: "Do today's work today." The entrance, located on the right, consists of five steps leading up to double doors beneath a large round-headed hood, which is adorned with decorative swags. The building's large windows have stone mullions and transoms, with panels between the floors. The central first-floor window is an oriel that rises through the eaves to merge with the bowed dormer. The basement windows are segmental-headed, featuring keystones that rise to a ground-floor sill band. The right return of the building is long and irregular, designed in a similar style. The interior has not been inspected.
