Description

Thomson, Turnbull and Peacock, dated 1898. Free style.

Brick and iron framed print works with red sandstone

dressings. 4 storeys, basement and attic. Ground floor:

wide centre bay with 4-centred arched and keystoned

wide window, mullion and transom glazing divides;

thistle and oak leaf decorations in spandrels with

boars' heads. Outer bays with service entrance to S,

office entrance (to stair) at N with scrolled timber

pediment set in glazed panelled surround; triplet

segment headed window above, deep fluted consoles flank

outer bays and support heavily bracketted 1st floor

balcony with ironwork balustrade. Central bay with 6

pilastered windows, 1st and 2nd floors; simply detailed

in 3rd. 2 storey canted bay through 1st and 2nd in outer

bays with lunette window in 3rd in voussoired and

keyblocked arch. Modillioned main cornice. Aediculed

gable over N bay, full-height attic storey at S with 2

arched windows, 3 segmentally pedimented central

dormers. Slate roof.
