Description

Market Harborough Railway Station, established before 1860, features a main building erected around 1885. The symmetrical facade is constructed of red brick with stone dressings and has a slightly concave hipped roof. The outer hipped gables are slightly advanced and topped with finials. There is an eaves cornice and very tall chimneys that are symmetrically placed, with the central rear stacks connected by an arch. A stone band runs along the first floor, and there is a stone capping on the brick plinth. The building is two storeys high and includes a central dormer with a segmental pediment and a moulded eared architrave with a scrolled base. It has six windows, with the outer bays flanked by stuccoed pilasters. All windows are barred sashes set in moulded stone architraves, and the two outer ground floor windows feature segmental pediments. The central four windows are paired, with a framed panel between them on the first floor. The western ground floor center pair has been altered to create an additional entrance. A round arched doorway with a fanlight is located at the center, and there is a canopy above the ground floor. An external staircase on the eastern side has a coped curved parapet. The rear elevation features a stuccoed segmental pediment across the facade.
