Description
Crofton Park (St Hilda's) War Memorial is a tall Celtic-style wheeled cross made of Cornish granite, which stands on a trapezoidal plinth. The front face of the cross features the inscription: "+ TO THE GLORY OF / GOD AND IN LOVING / MEMORY OF THOSE FROM / THIS PARISH WHO HAVE / LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES / IN THE GREAT WAR / A.D. 1914 - 1919 / THEIR NAME LIVETH / FOR EVERMORE." The other three faces of the cross display the names of the Fallen. This cross is supported by another trapezoidal plinth section, with each face also bearing additional names. The entire structure is set on a two-step base, with raised square blocks at the corners of the bottom step.
