Description

This is an early 19th century house located on Kennington Road. Originally a two-window house of three storeys, plus an attic and basement, it was later altered with the addition of a recessed entrance bay to the right, which was subsequently raised to the full height of the building. The house is constructed of stock brick with a stone-coped parapet and a slated mansard roof, which now features modern dormers. It retains finely gauged brick arches above the windows; these are flat on the second floor, framing wide replacement sash windows with glazing bars, while they are round on the first floor, framing similar windows with plaster fan-patterned tympana and patterned cast iron guards. Elliptical arches on the ground floor are topped with plain plastered tympana, and segmental basement arches now house modern garage doors. The recessed right bay features flat arches above original sash windows with glazing bars. A flight of twelve steps leads to a six-panel door positioned between paired engaged fluted columns with feathery capitals. Above the door is a keystone mask and guilloche moulding on the impost blocks of the gauged brick round arch, which also frames a fanlight.
