Description

St Barnabas Villas is a terrace of three houses built between 1843 and 1850 by John Snell, designed in the Italianate style. The buildings are constructed of stock brick with a slate roof and feature two stock brick chimneystacks. They stand two storeys high, with attics and a basement. The facade facing Guildford Road has two windows, while the side facing St Barnabas Villas has seven windows.

No 36 has two gabled dormers and three storeys, with vertical glazing on the first floor set within stuccoed surrounds. The ground floor features two sash windows with verticals only, adorned with a cornice and brackets, as well as brackets below the cills. A porch with round-headed windows is present, along with a similar window on the return.

Nos 1 and 2 St Barnabas Villas each have three sash windows with marginal glazing on the first floor, also in stuccoed surrounds. Their ground floors include two sash windows with verticals only, cornices with brackets, and stuccoed round-headed porches featuring moulded cornices, brackets, side-lights, and a flight of steps with cast iron balustrading. The buildings have a stuccoed bracket eaves cornice and plinth.

No 34 Guildford Road, along with Nos 1 and 2 St Barnabas Villas, is identical to these houses but is a mirror image. Together, these two terraces create a vista towards Lansdowne Gardens.
