Description
Nos 48 and 50 Guildford Road are a pair of houses built between 1843 and 1850 as part of a planned estate by John Snell. They are designed in the Italianate style and constructed from stock brick, featuring a hipped slate roof and two brick chimneystacks. The buildings are two storeys high with a basement and have six windows.
The first floor is adorned with a cornice and four giant pilasters. The central four bays have cambered sash windows with marginal glazing, while the end bays feature round-headed windows. The doorcases are topped with cornices and tablets, flanked by pilasters, and accessed by a flight of stone steps with cast iron railings. The basement is rusticated and stuccoed, with marginal glazed windows and cast iron spiral railings leading to the area.
