Description
The tomb of James Kershaw, located in West Norwood Memorial Park, is a chest tomb designed by Alfred Waterhouse around 1864. It is constructed from grey Rubislaw and pink Peterhead granite. The tomb features a rectangular battered base topped with a pink granite band that has carved roundels. Pink granite columns on pedestals support a roundel enriched cornice, which is topped by a massive cross-gable pitched roof. Each side of the roof displays a frieze of crosses in roundels, while the gable ends feature more elaborate crosses in roundels. The tomb is enclosed by cast and wrought iron railings with a scroll design and acorn-type finials, which are identical to those on the adjacent Elworthy tomb, also designed by Waterhouse. James Kershaw was a Member of Parliament.
