Description

The tomb of F.T. Elworthy, located in West Norwood Memorial Park, is a Celtic cross headstone and grave slab designed by Alfred Waterhouse around 1871-1872. It is made of Rubislaw granite and features a rectangular base with a pitched grave slab that is inscribed. The headstone itself is a Celtic cross with a tapering shaft, adorned with carved interlacing patterns on the arms and a beaded nimbus. Surrounding the tomb are cast and wrought iron railings with a scroll design, topped with acorn-type finials, which are identical to those found on the adjacent Kershaw tomb, also designed by Waterhouse.
