Description
This is a substantial, symmetrical terrace of mid-19th century origin, situated on the east side of Brixton Road. It comprises 25 houses, arranged in a pattern of six bays, two bays, nine bays, two bays, and then six bays. The buildings extend over four storeys with basement levels. The facades are constructed of grey brick with rusticated stucco quoins. A former entablature has been replaced by a plain rendered parapet. The lower floor is distinguished by banded rusticated stucco and an enriched Doric entablature, corresponding to the prostyle porches seen at the entrances. The windows are sash windows, set within moulded architraves that feature scrolled bases. On the first and second floors, the windows are further embellished with console bracketed cornices and a repetitive design of triangular and segmental pediments. Some houses have been widened to two or three windows.
