Description
Platforms Piece is a three-figure sculptural group created by Kevin Atherton between 1985 and 1986. The sculptures are made of bronze, cast using the lost wax technique, and are situated on two opposing platforms at Brixton Railway Station.
The three life-size figures are positioned as if they are waiting for trains. At the north end of the London Victoria-bound platform, there is a casually dressed black man leaning against a wall with one leg raised, his bag resting next to him. Opposite him, near the edge of the Herne Hill-bound platform, stands a white woman holding a shopping bag in her left hand. At the south end of the London Victoria-bound platform, there is a standing black woman with her sports bag at her side; this figure was moved to its current location from another platform in 2023.
