Description

This is a group of three dignified pairs of houses built in the mid-19th century, located on the west side of Clapham Road. Each house is three storeys high with a basement. They generally have one window in the main block, with a narrow, slightly set-back, full-height entrance bay. Number 240 has an additional set-back bay on the right. The window sections are contained within full-height projecting panels. The houses are constructed from stock brick with a stuccoed basement. They have low-pitched slate roofs with eaves soffits. The windows are sash windows with margin lights; the main bay features tripartite windows within moulded architraves, with bracketed cills, and cornices on the first floor. Ground-floor windows have canted oriels with dentil cornices. Access is provided by eight steps with side walls leading to a decorated four-panel door set back behind an entablature surround and moulded architrave.
