Description

No 202 on Kennington Lane is a corner building that forms part of the Duchy of Cornwall development from 1913-14, designed by Adshead and Ramsey. It features four bays along both Kennington Lane and Courtenay Street, with a three-window concave quadrant angle. The building stands three storeys tall and is constructed of pink brick, accented with Roman cement dressings. Notable architectural elements include a balustraded parapet, bands at the second floor, and cills at the first and second floors. The ground floor is arcaded and has an impost band. The sash windows, which include glazing bars, are set under flat red gauged brick arches, except for a central taller tripartite window on the first floor that has an elliptical patterned head and an incised oval panel above it. The first floor windows are fitted with louvred shutters, except in the quadrant, and open onto a full-width patterned cast iron balcony. In the quadrant, there is a central prostyle pedimented porch supported by columns that feature Prince of Wales' feather capitals.
