Description

Nos. 1, 2, and 3 Chester Way are a large, nearly symmetrical block of three storeys built in the early 20th century, likely by Adshead and Ramsey for the Duchy of Cornwall Estate. The building comprises five, nine, and five bays respectively, and is designed in the Early Victorian style. It is constructed of stock brick with stone dressings, including cill bands and an entablature featuring a key pattern frieze and dentil cornice. A parapet sits above, with brickwork at the sides and a central balustrade. The windows are casement windows, with longer windows on the first floor that include balconies. A central porch is enriched with Roman Doric columns and a balcony above. A window above the porch is set within a moulded architrave featuring pilasters and a console bracketed cornice. Number 3 has an entrance within an enriched entablature. At the south-east end of No. 1, a rounded corner addition features giant Ionic pilasters resting upon the first-floor cill band. This corner section extends for five bays and includes an entrance similar to that of No. 3, continuing for a further five bays around the corner onto Kennington Lane.
