Description

This is a pair of mid-18th century buildings located on Kennington Lane. Number 155 has three storeys and three windows, while number 157 has three storeys and four windows, although the right-hand bay of number 157 is a modern addition containing a garage. The buildings are constructed of dark stock brick with a parapet. The sash windows have glazing bars and are set within moulded architraves with stucco-lined reveals, each with a gauged brick arch above. The front doors are of four fielded panels with two beaded panels above, each topped by a cornice, a radial fanlight, and a narrow moulded architrave flanked by pilasters. The doorcase for number 155 features an architrave with a Greek key pattern, an enriched frieze, and a cornice, incorporating modillions and garlands hanging from the sides of the architrave. The doorcase for number 157 has a cornice embellished with dentils and an egg-and-dart moulding. The buildings were formerly the Duchy of Cornwall Estate Office.
