Description

Numbers 1-7 Bewdley Street comprise a row of seven terraced houses built around 1836-1837. The houses are constructed of yellow and multi-coloured stock brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with stucco dressings. Number 1 has a Welsh slate mansard roof, numbers 2-6 have a parapet that obscures the roof, and number 7 has a gabled roof. Each house has party-wall brick stacks.

The design is Neo-Classical in style, arranged symmetrically with three storeys and two-storey end bays at numbers 1 and 7. The houses have basements, and numbers 1 and 7 have attics. Low steps lead to doorways featuring fluted quarter columns, panelled doors, and fanlights. Numbers 1-4 have patterned fanlights, numbers 5-6 have plain fanlights, and number 7 has a curved and radial fanlight.

Ground-floor windows are round-arched sashes; numbers 1 and 7 have 6/6 sashes with curved and radial glazing bars, while numbers 2-6 have 8/8 sashes with curved glazing bars in a Gothic style. Gauged brick flat arches are above the upper 6/6 sashes. First-floor windows are full-length sashes recessed and linked by stucco impost strings. Numbers 6 and 7 have iron balconies to the first floor. Stone coping is present on the parapets. Dormers are visible on the roof of numbers 1 and 7. Cast iron area railings with urn finials are present at all houses except number 1.
