Description
Numbers 295 to 305 (odd) are seven terraced houses built in 1822. They are constructed from gold and buff stock bricks arranged in Flemish bond, featuring a rusticated stucco ground floor and stucco dressings. The roofs are mansard, made from Welsh slate and artificial slate, with brick stacks on the party walls. The houses follow a side-hall entrance plan with a staircase and rise three storeys, plus a basement and attic, with each house being two windows wide.
The ground floor has round-arched openings set in stucco recesses. Steps lead up to the doorways, which feature Ionic pilaster-jambs supporting a corniced head, and elaborate panelled doors with a circular motif for the door pull and patterned fanlights. Notably, the fanlight on Nos. 297, 299, 301, 303, and 305 is from the 20th century. The ground-floor windows include 6/6 sashes with Gothic-style glazing bars on Nos. 295 and 303, 2/2 sashes on No. 297, 6/6 sashes on Nos. 299 and 301, a 4/4 sash on No. 305, and a 1/1 sash on No. 307.
The first floor features full-length 6/6 sashes set in round-arched recesses, all topped with gauged brick round arches and adorned with iron balcony railings in anthemion and Vitruvian scroll patterns. The second floor has 6/6 sashes beneath gauged brick flat arches. A plain stucco cornice runs along the top, and there are roof dormers in the attic. The houses are complemented by attached iron railings.
