Description

Numbers 202 to 220 (even) and attached railings are a row of early 19th century terraced houses on Liverpool Road, Islington. The houses are constructed of yellow brick in Flemish bond, with stucco finishes. The roofs are of Welsh or artificial slate where visible. Most houses have three storeys over a basement, with some featuring dormers in the roof. Numbers 210 to 220 are set slightly forward to create a central feature.

The basement and ground floors are stuccoed, with the ground floor decorated with banded rustication. Segmental-arched entrances are topped by pilasters and fanlights with decorative glazing. Ground-floor windows are also segmental-arched. Stucco detailing ends at a sill band; the upper floors feature flat-arched windows with heads of gauged brick. First-floor windows have balconies, with some bracketed by cast-iron railings. The parapets and cornices have been rebuilt. Stacks are located within the party walls.

Notable features vary between houses: number 202 has two flat-arched dormers in a mansard roof; number 204 retains original sash windows, a stucco cornice, and blocking course; numbers 206 to 208 have parapets, while number 208 lacks decorative glazing to its fanlight. The upper storeys of numbers 210 to 212 have been rebuilt, with two flat-arched dormers in the roof. Number 214 has original sash windows to the ground and first floors, along with a stucco cornice and blocking course. Number 216 lacks decorative glazing to its fanlight and has a stucco cornice and blocking course. Number 218 has original sash windows to the ground floor and a stuccoed parapet; and number 220 features a segmental-arched entrance in a single-storey porch on its left-hand return, with a panelled door of original design. Cast-iron railings are present to the steps and area, although many have been replaced.
