Description

Numbers 7-27 (odd) and attached railings form a terrace of houses built between 1830 and 1835. The terrace is constructed of yellow brick laid in a Flemish bond, with stucco and roofs of Welsh and artificial slate. The design is symmetrical, with projecting end bays at numbers 7-11 and 23-27. The houses are four storeys high, with a basement, and generally have two windows each, except number 7 which has three.

The basement and ground floors are stuccoed, with the ground floor decorated with chamfered rustication. Steps lead to a round-arched entrance, featuring cabled and fluted pilasters supporting a cornice and a fanlight with decorative glazing. The original panelled front doors remain, with a replacement design at number 11. The ground-floor windows are round-arched, set within recessed round-arched panels of plain stucco, and feature sashes with pointed-arched glazing bars and margin lights. A broad storey band runs above the ground floor. Upper-floor windows are flat-arched; those to the first floor have moulded stucco architraves with cornices and individual iron balconies. The first-floor windows have 6/6 sashes. Second-floor windows on numbers 7-11 and 23-27 feature moulded stucco architraves, while those on numbers 13-21 have no architraves but retain gauged brick heads. These windows also have 6/6 sashes. An original cornice and blocking course are present on numbers 7-11 and 23-27, with a parapet on numbers 13-21. Dormers are incorporated into a mansard roof on all houses, and stacks are visible on the party walls. Cast-iron railings are present to the steps and area, and a basement overthrow is found at number 21.
