Description

Number 38, known as Wharfinger's Cottage, is located at a former timber wharf on Regent's Canal and dates from the early 19th century. The building is constructed of brick and features a pantile roof with coped parapets at the gables and two gable stacks. It is two storeys high and has three bays. The south front is symmetrical, with a central round-arched doorway flanked by two single 16-pane sash windows. Above the doorway, there are three similar sash windows, with the central sash being slightly narrower than the others. All window openings have slightly cambered arches. The rear elevation is similar to the front but includes a cambered-arched doorway, an altered sash window to the left, and a central 12-pane sash window above. There is also an adjoining lower block with a curved wall to the west. The Regent's Canal, where the cottage is situated, was constructed between 1812 and 1820, overseen by John Nash and built by James Morgan.
