Description
These are terraced houses located on St Peter's Street in Islington, built around 1840. They are constructed from yellow brick arranged in Flemish bond, with stucco dressings, and their roofs are hidden behind a parapet. The houses rise three storeys over a basement, with two windows each; notably, numbers 70 to 76 are slightly set forward. The basement and ground floor are stuccoed, featuring chamfered rustication and vermiculated keystones above the openings. Each house has steps leading up to a round-arched entrance, which is flanked by Greek Doric half-columns supporting a cornice, except for numbers 68 and 82 which have been altered, and numbers 78 and 80 which feature pilaster-jambs. The entrances have fanlights, although the one at number 80 is blocked, and panelled doors of original design are present at numbers 64-68, 78, and 82.
The ground-floor windows are round-arched for numbers 64-68 and 78-82, while the others are flat-arched and include balconies and window guards, except for numbers 68 and 82. The stucco work finishes at a sill band on the first floor. All upper windows are flat-arched with gauged brick heads, featuring 6/6 sashes of original design at numbers 64 (ground floor), 66 (ground floor), 68 (first and second floor), 70, 72 (ground floor), 78 (first floor), 80 (first and second floor), and 82 (first and second floor). The houses have a moulded stucco cornice and a parapet. There is evidence of rebuilding at numbers 64-68 and 80. The area is enclosed with cast-iron railings, and there are overthrows at numbers 64-66 and 80-82.
