Description

Numbers 1 to 16 Remington Street are a terrace of 1846-1847 houses. They are built of yellow brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with stucco finishes and roofs hidden behind a parapet. The houses are two or three storeys high, with a basement, and each has two windows. The basement is stuccoed, and steps lead to a round-arched entrance with a moulded stucco architrave, pilasters, and archivolt. A further recessed arch with pilaster jambs and cornice frames the entrance, which has a fanlight (now blocked in number 16). Original panelled doors survive at numbers 1, 6, 13, 15, and 16. All windows are flat-arched and have moulded stucco architraves, with a sill band to the first floor. The windows are 6/6 sash windows, of original design to numbers 1 (first floor), 2, 4-5, 7-16. A stucco cornice and blocking course runs along the front of numbers 2 to 16. Number 1 rises to two additional storeys, with flat-arched windows and a moulded stucco architrave to the third storey, and a penthouse above. Number 14 has a mansard roof with two dormers. Chimney stacks are located on the party walls between the properties. Cast-iron railings are present to the steps and area.
