Description
No. 98 Clapton Common is an early to mid-19th century villa featuring three bays and two storeys with an attic. The building has large proportions and is constructed of stock brick, accented with a stucco frieze, cornice, and blocking course. It has a slated mansard roof with three dormer windows, where the outer ones are tripartite. The tall end walls are topped with stucco coping. The ground floor is stuccoed and features a band that extends to the first floor. The first floor has sash windows set under gauged brick arches, while the ground floor includes long casement windows with moulded architraves and detached cornices. A central Doric porch in antis leads to a modern glazed door. The villa is noted for its important location overlooking the common.
