Description
This is a late 18th-century terrace of three houses, numbered 3, 4, and 5 Clapton Terrace. Originally listed as numbers 43 to 47 (odd), the terrace is three stories high with a basement, and each house originally had three windows, except for number 5, which has two windows and a two-story entrance bay on the right side. Some rebuilding has occurred to the tops of numbers 4 and 5. The houses are constructed of stock brick, topped with parapets. Sash windows are set within gauges flat brick arches, some of which have glazing bars. The ground floor features round-headed windows recessed within round arches, with an impost string. Doors are similarly recessed. The first floor of number 4 has long windows that open onto a balcony with a cast iron rail in a Gothic pattern. A stucco cill band runs along the front. The front door of number 3 has been modernized, while number 4 has a six-panel door with a patterned, radial fanlight. Number 5 has a four-panel door with a plain fanlight. Wrought iron area railings are present, with urn finials spaced at intervals. The terrace forms a group with the Church of St Thomas.
