Description
No. 87 on Great Eastern Street is a building from the third quarter of the 19th century, originally serving as an office and possibly a warehouse. It stands five storeys tall and features two windows across its facade. The exterior is constructed of stock brick with stone dressings. The ground floor has been altered by a modern shopfront but retains a Gothic doorway on the left, which has a pointed arch, three orders of colonnettes, and a hoodmould.
The first floor has paired, segment-headed windows with stone shouldered lintels and hoodmoulds, along with a stone string course above. The second and third floor windows are adorned with decorative tiled tympana beneath four-centred relieving arches and are set within pointed arched recesses that rise two storeys high. The top storey is set back, with its windows positioned behind an arcade of columns and segmental arches, which supports a corbel table, an eaves cornice, and a wrought-iron crowning balustrade.
