Description
The Brown Bear Public House is an early 19th-century building located at 139 Leman Street, E1. It features a facade made of stock brick with a roof that is not visible. The building has a parapet, and the three northern bays are adorned with a painted cornice, frieze, and architrave, along with a band below that covers the parapet. Plain rendered pilasters extend from the first-floor sill to the eaves between each of the three northern bays, while the side bay remains unornamented. The structure has three storeys and four windows, with the southern window positioned over a rear carriageway. All windows have flat gauged arches, except for those on the first floor. The center windows feature a bracketed pediment and outer windows with architraves. The ground floor includes a cornice above and pilasters at the sides. Some original glass remains, with brass letters on the sills and brass rails inside. The Brown Bear Public House is part of a group with Nos 137 to 141 (odd).
