Description

This is an early 19th-century pair of properties, numbered 158 and 160, situated on Lower Clapton Road in E5. Each property stands four storeys high with a basement, and originally featured two windows. The construction mainly uses stock brick with a stone-coped parapet. The sash windows have glazing bars and are set within stucco-lined reveals, topped with gauged flat brick arches. The properties have modern doors and fanlights. It is likely that the buildings incorporate an older core, as evidenced by the return elevation showing a double span and high-pitched roofs. Nos 158 to 162 (even numbers) form a group with the stable and wall attached to No 162, and Bishop Wood’s Almshouses.
