Description

This is an early to mid-19th century pair of large houses, numbered 26 and 28, on Lower Clapton Road. Each house is three storeys high with a basement, and has three windows. The houses are constructed of stock brick, with a stuccoed basement and ground floor, the ground floor being distinguished by banded rustication. Giant flat pilasters extend from the first-floor cill band and support an entablature with a blocking course. The first and second floors have sash windows with glazing bars, accessed by gauged flat brick arches. The ground floor windows have lost their original glazing bars. There are eight steps, featuring ornamental wrought iron handrails, leading up to four-panel doors, each with a rectangular fanlight, set within prostyle Doric porches. The basement windows have been blocked.
