Description
Two semi-detached villas, numbers 36 Regent's Park Road and 4 St Mark's Square, were built in the mid-19th century. Number 4 was formed using the return and rear portions of number 36. The villas are constructed of stucco, with a rusticated ground floor and quoins. They have slated hipped roofs with dormers and projecting eaves supported by brackets.
Each villa is three storeys high, with attics and basements, and has a double-fronted facade of three windows. Number 36 has a side portico with an arched entrance, a fanlight, and a half-glazed door. Number 4 has a central portico featuring an arched entrance flanked by Ionic three-quarter columns and brackets carrying a dentil cornice, which is continued around the house at first-floor level; the doorway has a fanlight, sidelights, and a half-glazed door. Number 36 also features a ground-floor bay window, while number 4 has a canted bay window with a cast-iron balcony. The first floor has round-arched, recessed casements with patterned heads, with a central window featuring a stucco balustraded balcony flanked by pilasters carrying an entablature. The right-hand window has a cast-iron balcony. The second floor has architraved segmental headed sash windows, with cast-iron balconies on large console bracket supports; the central console forms a keystone to the window below on the outer bays. Tall slab chimney stacks are present. The interiors have not been inspected.
