Description

This is a single cattle trough dating from 1885, located in front of No. 195 Grays Inn Road, which is not included in the listing. The trough was presented by the Metropolitan Cattle Trough and Drinking Fountain Association. It is made of granite and measures approximately 2.5 meters in length, supported on rectangular granite plinths at either end. The long side facing the street has an inscription identifying it as the work of the Metropolitan Cattle Trough and Drinking Fountain Association. On the pavement side, there is an inscription that states it was given "in loving memory of HTW and MWW 1885." The south return features a partially obliterated inscription from Proverbs, while the north end has an ogee cap for a drinking bowl and another biblical inscription, which is also partly obscured.
