Description
The tomb of Robert Nelson, who died in 1715, is a monument made of Portland stone. It features a gadrooned urn on a tall plinth and is enclosed by partly surviving wrought-iron railings. This tomb is situated on the south side of the former St George the Martyr burial ground. Nelson was the first person to be buried in this new cemetery, selecting this location to address the aversion people had to its use.
