Description
This is an anonymous 18th-century obelisk made of Portland stone, located in St George's Gardens. It features a tall obelisk that stands on a tapering sarcophagus, which has a gadrooned middle course and supports weathered armorial cartouches. The identity of its patron is unknown. The obelisk is situated on the south side of the gardens, which were formerly a burial ground for St George the Martyr. It is one of the largest and most striking outdoor monuments found in any churchyard in London.
