Description

Numbers 24-46 and their attached railings form a terrace of twelve houses built around 1855, likely by J Burden. The terrace is constructed of stucco with rusticated ground floors and features slated roofs. It has a serpentine shape, standing three storeys high with basements, some of which have later attic dormers. Numbers 24 and 26 are double-fronted with three windows; number 24 includes a curved right angle and a blind window to connect to number 22. Numbers 28-36 each have two windows, while numbers 38-46 each have three. The houses originally had prostyle Doric porticoes, although numbers 40 and 42 retain only responding pilasters. Each house features doorways with fanlights and panelled doors. The windows are recessed sash windows; the ground and first floors mostly have margin glazing, some ground floor windows are tripartite. Numbers 42 and 44 have cast-iron window guards, and number 44 features a canted bay window. The first floor windows are architraved with console bracketed cornices; numbers 26-34 and 44 and 46 have cast-iron balconies. Numbers 28-44 have console-bracketed eaves, with consoles positioned to flank the tops of the second-floor windows. The left bay of number 46 has a pediment. The interiors have not been inspected. The terrace is complemented by attached cast-iron railings with fleur-de-lys finials to the areas.
